Anthony Figaji MBChB, MMED, FCS (Neurosurgery), PhD

Tony Figaji has been the Professor and Head of Paediatric Neurosurgery at the University of Cape Town and Red Cross Children’s Hospital in South Africa since 2009. He is also the National Research Foundation SARChI Chair of Clinical Neurosciences, past-president of the Society of Neurosurgeons of South Africa and of the International Neurotrauma Society, and president-elect of the ISPN, which he also served as Scientific Chair and Secretary. His surgical interest is paediatric neuro-oncology. His main research interest is in improving patient outcomes through understanding the pathophysiology, biochemistry, and pharmacokinetics of the injured brain. He is a recipient of the Wellcome Trust Discovery award, and the Harry Oppenheimer Fellowship. He leads a multidisciplinary research group called African Brain Child.
